2008 Blue Dog Farm opening dates and times
This is the END of the season! Gleaning Day this Friday, August 22!
We did our first Gleaning Day in 2006, and it was great. "Gleaning" is an old practice of farmers opening their fields after harvest so others could take the bits left for their own use. Here is how we see it: you are interested in fresh, organic, u-pick blueberries for an excellent price (Free). Or you just didn't get your fill of berries yet. We are interested in cleaning out the remaining fruit, but it doesn't justify paying pickers, nor does it provide premium picking conditions for u-pick (but this year it comes close.) It also allows us to share our fruit with an area food bank.
Here's how it works. Come out Friday morning, August 22. Pick as many blueberries as you want. No money is exchanged, and you take home 1/3, we keep 1/3, and we'll pack 1/3 for the food bank. That simple. We want this fruit to be enjoyed by everyone. So come on out.
Obviously, the best picking will be early, though we will stay open from 9 a.m. to noon. We're looking forward to seeing you on Friday.
The rest of the story as of August 19:
More U-pick details here.
Picked organic berries: We're done taking orders for picked blueberries and raspberries. Thank you all who've ordered.
If you want to be on our e-mail list for next season, drop me an email at berries@bluedogfarm.com with "email contact list" in the subject line. That way you'll get first notice of our berry availability in 2009.
Tours any season by appointment.
Pumpkin patch visits September and October. Take a walk out to the field when you come for u-pick and compare to what it looks like this fall.
Organic CSA Subscriptions Started June 10. SOLD OUT for 2008.
Organic strawberries We've begun planting 2009's organic strawberries. If at first you don't succeed.... Wish us luck with water, weeds and slugs!
Thank you, our loyal (and new) customers, for your kind words and your happy picking. We will keep working hard to bring you as many organic berries and as much organic produce as we can.
